I would like to inform you that the mysterious names of Escobaria theriaca Wheler and Escobaria theriaca var. spurea M. Johnson, that are enlisted in the internet version of the Herbarium of Missouri Botanical Garden have been solved. There is only a mistake on these web-pages. The above-mentioned names originated from the transcription of

Euphorbia theriaca Wheeler, Rhodora 43: 242, tab. 660 A. 1941
Euphorbia theriaca var. spurea, M.Johnson, Wrightia, 5: 138-9, 1975
(see IPNI)

Hereby I consider this question solved and the names were removed from the homepage of Genus Escobaria.
